The YPEF contest is addressed to pupils from European countries at the age range dependant on the country, not less than 13 and not more than 20. The task is the promotion of European forest areas, especially those protected by Natura 2000 network, the sustainable development in forestry and the biodiversity in European nature. The contest is organized by organizations from participating countries. They constitute the YPEF International Commission.
There are two stages of the contest. The National Stage Contests includes answering questions concerning the forests in all the European countries. The YPEF project creates the original national forest education event. In some countries the questions are added to existing national forest contests. The organizations and institutions participating in the contest produce textbooks and other materials about forests in their countries. These materials are available when clicking on our site Meet the Forest.
The European Stage Contest is a workshop for pupils being the national winners. They are trained to cooperate and discuss the problems of nature and environment above the state borders and barriers. The first edition of the contest’s final was hosted by Poland, the second edition’s final this year took place in Estonia and the third edition’s final in 2013 will be held in Portugal.
The YPEF initiative establishes a new dimension in cooperation of NGO’s and forest professionals for forest and environmental education of young European generation.
