FOREST QUIZ

The minicontest FOREST QUIZ continues.
If you are less than 20 years old and you are a student  of any kind of school from any European country and you are a fan of YPEF on Facebook, this mini contest is for you!

QUESTION no. 3

Now we publish the third question – this time asked by Mrs. Egle Mankeviciene representing Lithuanian State Forests.

As this time the question is quite challenging, please find below the text of the question asked by Mrs. Mankeviciene.

“There are a lot of examples of flora and fauna species introduction all around the World as well as in Europe. Some of those examples shows very negative impact and some are almost the only solution to solve environmental problems. There are one tree species, representative of one of the widest spread tree genus across Europe, that started to be used to reduce soil erosion on some highly vulnerable sites, such as sandy dunes. Quite frequently this species is also used as an ornamental plant. Please name that species and give a few examples of the applications where and when it was started to be planted to fight soil deterioration. Second part of the question is: what threats can the introduction of this species cause.”

We are waiting for your answers (please send them to office@ypef.eu) until 15th of January 2013. Then from all correct answers the contest commission will draw three, which will be rewarded.

The deadline for sending answers prolonged to 21st of January!

You can find the detailed rules of the mini contest here:
